Iris Shawcroft: There are lots of Irish website links on this website http://familytimeline.webs.com/apps/links/...are you researching YOUR ancestry or doing a one name study...if it is your family history then you don't do your primarily research by surname.....look on the same site how to research your family history...at first with records in your home
Manual Burtis: The O'Sullivans of either branch mostly came from Munster, the southernmost province of Ireland. Specifically what was the ancient kingdom of Desmond or South Munster. They are a major sept of the larger Eoganachta (Owenacht) clan, also called the Eugenians, which dominated the southern half of the osland for hundreds of years. O'Sullivan is an anglicization of Uà Suileabhan meaning grandson (or descendant) of Suileabhan which in English pronounce approximately Sullivan. What you need to do is work your way back from your grandfather. Don't worry about the Beare or Mór or even Brack for now. Your ! grandad probably doesn't know about that anyway. But DO get him to give you any info he has on his parents, grandparents anything that is known about when the family emigrated from Ireland. If there are any other older relatives, graet aunts or uncles maybe around talk to them also. Frequently there are thgings that one family member might know that others in the family never knew about. There may be other O'Sullivans besides the ones from Munster. Unfortunately you are not going to find your genealogy on the internet, much less on Yahoo! Answers. But, once you have a good knowledge of who your grandparents, great grands and further back are then you can use the internet to connect with other researchers who may be able to provide a lead or even have the info you need.My O'Sullivans came from Cork, in Munster, in the mid 1700s. That is one of my family lines I have not researched yet. Irish genealogy for most people stops in the mid to late 1700s....Show more
