Need suggestions on how to "live green"?

William Vickerman: If you really to learn about green then, go to hundreds of siteson the subject of green living.

Donald Caravalho: the easiest way is to recycle...almost all communities have some sort of recycling program.don't ever litter.make your home and car as energy efficient as possible.there are a lot of sites that can help you.good luck and thanks for trying to do your part....Show more

Denna Prudente: 1.try and live right beside a river2.get solar car,and all machinery3.Dont litter and if u see som1 do it,look at them lik a freak4.for b-day cards take out old ones cut them and send them back and tell every1 ur being helpful to the envirment5.Dont eat junk foods6.Stop using alot of water in shower, bath ect.....Show more

Dick Ovdenk: It is simple, stop buying things and overconsuming. Limit your size of family. Everything you consume/use/buy has an environmental cost. This may be from mining/processing, manufacturing/transportation or disposal.! The more simple the product for everyday needs such as food, cleaning materials, toiletries; the better, less processing, return to the earth much more easily. So be aware of the product and it's packaging. We have finite resources, finite useable land, delicate eco system. The more we overpopulate, the more we overconsume, the more we have a negative impact on the environment and other people.Stop buying things, limit your consumption and size of family....Show more

Dick Ovdenk: There are good and bad people everywhere. By putting the people you meet into one category you are doing the same thing that those people are doing to you. You are perpetuating bad feelings. I'm going to be real and say that I am sure there are areas where there are more individuals that are racist, but that doesn't mean you should paint all of New Jersey as racist towards South Asians. Don't you see that you are doing the same thing you say they are doing to you? If you are in a bad neighbor! hood and having a lot of problems, try to get out if you can. ! But when you move keep an open mind, and see people as individuals. Some of the stereotypes in your head can give off impressions as well, and sometimes we show on the outside what we are thinking on the inside. If you are thinking that someone may not like you, you are apt to seem unfriendly to that person. Anyways, just keep an open mind and treat each person individually. No race or class of people is the same....Show more

Tyrone Disanti: Green living is easy. It's also frugal. And, it feels good knowing that you are trying your best to not waste the Earth's resources. Cut back on prepackaged foods. Plant a garden. Cut back on electricity - don't use a clothes dryer. Walk or ride a bike to get where you need to go. Buy a fuel efficient car for those times when you can't walk or bike.

Freeman Rutkin: First of all, be aware of everything you do. Everytime you get in the car, turn on the light switch, buy a piece of fruit, get in the shower, wash your di! shes, throw the trash out, take your dog for a walk, flush the toilet....Pretty much anything you do affects the environment. Ask yourself "how does this impact the earth?, do I need to do this, or do I need to do it this way? What other ways can I go about this?" and also be sure to think "function over fashion". By having this kind of mentality, you will become so much more aware of how our daily lives affect this planet. The list of things you could do to live green is close to endless, so here is a list I made up for this past earth day to get you started.Switch your lightbulbs to CFLs (compact flourescent lightbulbs). They use a fraction of the energy of regular ones and last 5-10 times as long. In the USA half of our energy goes to lighting our homes. And yes there is a tiny bit of mercury in each bulb, HOWEVER, coal powered plants use more mercury than if everyone changed used CFLs. When the bulb does burn out, just give it to your city or county's hazardous waste pro! gram. Water Conservation~ Only 1%-3 % of this planet’s water is fres! h and must be shared by ALL of us!First, be aware of your water usage.Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth, washing your hands, doing the dishes, etc.Fix leaky faucets and sprinklers. That little drip adds up quickly!Water your yard only when needed (step on the grass blades; if they spring back up they don’t need water). Also water deep and infrequently.Trade part or all of your high maintenance lawn for native and drought tolerant plants (little water, little maintenance, and much prettier!).Don’t use your hose as a broom to clean sidewalks and gutters.Don’t water if it is going to or has rained recently.Save water: rinse fruits and veggies over a bucket and use that to water house plants. Put buckets under rain gutters to catch water. Store it in bins or drums to water plants later.Put a bucket in the shower and kitchen sink to catch warm up water.Plant shade trees over lawns to prevent water evaporation and provide shade and oxygen.Don’t eat meat once a! week (or become a vegetarian!). About half of our country’s drinking water goes to “growing” meat.Waste ~ Landfills are filling fast and we need new places to put our trash, with some officials wanting to dump in wilderness areas, or cover them up and build cities over them making people sick, we need to cut our waste now!Reduce what you use, Reuse what you can, Recycle the rest! (about 60% of our trash can be recycled!)Kitchen scraps (no meat or waste) mixed with dead leaves, grass clippings, and even paper can be turned into Compost which is highly nutritious soil that can be put in your garden as fertilizer or mulch for healthy plants and less waste! (and it’s free!)Use reusable canvas bags instead of plastic or paper when shopping. Greenhouse Gas (ghg) Emissions~ Global warming is a very serious threat to life on this planet and is caused mostly by human activity. Every living thing will be affected by it. We must all do our part to stop it.Drive less and carpo! ol as often as possible. Combine trips and turn off the engine if you a! re stopped for more than 10 seconds. (emissions from cars are responsible for a huge part of the gases that cause global warming).Walk when you can, or ride a bike! (good exercise!) Turn off lights when they are not needed and when leaving rooms.Switch to Compact Florescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) which last 10 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs and use less than ½ the energy!!Unplug appliances when not in use such as cell phone chargers, kitchen appliances, TVs, DVD/VCR players, stereos, etc. (Called the phantom load, even when turned off these things still use small amounts of energy which add up quickly!)Put computers on sleeper or stand by mode when not in use but for quick access.Use cold water rather than hot when you can as it saves energy! When it’s warm out hang dry your clothes! The AC should be set no lower than 78 degrees. Keep curtains and blinds closed and plant shade trees on the south side of your house to keep cooler. In the evenings, open windows an! d use fans instead of the AC to cool the house.Heaters should be set no higher than about 68 degrees. Let the sun shine in to warm your home, and use an extra blanket or two at night to keep you cozy!Make sure your home insulation is in good order for better AC/Heat efficiency!Did you know most of our food travels at least 1,500 miles to get to us? Buy local, in season produce which also helps your local economy! Organic products don’t use chemicals and pesticides that get into and pollute our water supply.Lawnmowers pollute, too! Go for old fashioned pushmowers or efficient electric! So what else can you do?Let’s free ourselves from oil and coal (the leading cause of greenhouse gases).Support companies that are going green (and not those who are mean).Ask your local energy supplier if they offer renewable energy and get on it! Urge your government to take action on global warming!Purchase Energy Star products.Buy eco-friendly products such as cleaners, paints, and even ! clothes!EDUCATE yourself and be aware of your environmental impact. Here! are some of the websites that I really like:PathtoFreedom.com (watch their videos)LivingWith Ed.comEnvironmental DefenseIdealBite.comCare2.comSierraClub“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”- Gandhi...Show more

Shan Lanen: Yahoo Answers has a new Environmental "Living Green Test". If you take it, you will have some great ideas for living greener....smile
