How much is it to have a car?

Javier Holsonback: Insurance is based on the individual and the car they purchase. It's impossible to give you an estimate without knowing the car you have in mind or details of your personal situation.

Toshia Metzker: This is one of those questions that none of us can answer unless you tell us your driving record, address, make/model of the cars you're interested, what type of coverage you want, etc. And since you probably dont want to reveal personal info you can goto any website of major insurance companies and get free online quotes yourself. Here are some companies with online quotes:Geico.comEsurance.comProgressive.com...Show more

Joeann Hoyt: The problem with insurance is still that are we talking about a Honda Civic, a Ford F150, or a Ferarri? It's impossible to even give you the slightest hint of a inkling of a clue of what insurance will cost because we don't know:- Your age- Your gender- Your driving record- The car you're buying- Mileage you'll be ! drivingEtc etc, all these things and FAR FAR more factor in to what your insurance will cost. Here's my recommendation, most insurance companies offer "quote calculators" online. Figure out a baseline car, the average car you'd look to buy, and get quotes based on that. Just to throw it out there, I have 3 cars at 21 years old, my insurance is as follows:1996 Impala SS - $68 a month for full coverage2005 DRZ-400Supermoto (Motorcycle) - $25 a month for full coverage1980 Rabbit Pickup - $20 a month for basic coverageAs for other costs, well it all depends on how much you drive and the kind of mileage the car gets. At the very least, factor in a few hundred bucks a year for basic maintenance (and this is assuming you do the work yourself, double or triple that number if you're going to take it to a garage).Speaking of fuel, just figure out roughly how much you'll be driving (mileage) every day, then double the number and divide by your cars MPG rating. For example, I drive abo! ut 15 miles a day going to and from work, so double it, 30. As! suming I drive 6 days out of the week, and there are 35 weeks in a year, 6 x 35 = 210. So 30 miles multiplied by 210 days equals 6300 miles a year for me. My car gets roughly 25 miles to the gallon, so 6300 divided by 25 is 252 gallons of gas used a year, roughly. At current fuel costs of about $2.50 that means I'm spending around $630 a year on gas....Show more

Lizzette Wendroth: That depends way too much on what kind of car. Two door vs. 4 door? SUV? Truck? Van? Where are you? Where will the car be parked? etc. Pick a few insurance companies. Check with your parents to see what insurance company they use cause you might be able to get a family discount or something. And do some car shopping first. Once you pick a car you think you like, then call the insurance companies. They'll want to know what kind of car is it (year, make, mileage, packages, options etc.). Just tell them you're looking to buy a new car and want to get some quotes. I live in central Indiana, and ! when I turned 18 (in 2003), I was driving an '02 Hyundai Elantra and paying roughly $230/month for full coverage....Show more

Sammy Tabatt: A lot more then you think it is.
